REFLECTIONS DURING A PANDEMIC; WILL THE REAL VIRAL MENACE PLEASE STAND UP?

I often ponder about Hunter, what would he say to this or that, how would he act on a current situation we, not he, have experienced.  In answer to these questions, my guess is he would have written more analogies or anecdotes of the self-serving politicians and the greater wrong of the right. You know, those bought and paid for by a bunch of corporate whores, the lucky ones born into money who behest themselves at the whim of the wealthiest of the wealthy all the while the proles continue to sweat and toil over their menial labors on a global level, only to satisfy the whims of the rich and famous. He would share stories of thieves and killers who rejoiced at the loss of their mortal enemies and their fortunes that fed their perversions. Again, through his writings would come flowing from his pen a vengeance of justice rejoiced that could become a subject of today’s headlines instead of the so quickly forgotten left in the past.

But have times really changed that much since his? Have the people woken up at all or more so? Will they, could they, should they wake? I have always thought that only one thing and one thing only could wake up this sleepy world to facts that poverty, like apartheid, are not accidents but carefully planned, engineered if you will, long term events to benefit only the top of the cream whilst all else settles to the bottom of that glass half full. Poverty helps instill ignorance to the masses and continues that inept response to the solutions of the inequalities of our global society.

Just “strive to be yourself” he might say. Or “It really never got weird enough” he could add. Just be your own revolution! It is that combined sense of merit and chaos, of belonging to something but nothing, something much larger than oneself, a thing one cannot see or touch or feel but you know it is there inside and out that keeps us alive inside ourselves? Something that surrounds us yet is invisible but makes our hearts pound with excitement and anticipation that whatever it is, will quickly become something new, something almost scary, or maybe, something we all could come to fear.

It could be anything, a catastrophe, perhaps a bolide impact, a super volcanic eruption, a fascist state so resplendent with the false hopes of a better future for us all that we are sucked into it like the beginning of a fast carnival ride you were afraid to take as a child but stepped on to anyway. What could bring us all together being united as one, divided by zero, and progressively anointed by the rich that we too could succeed beyond the perils of our own poverty-stricken status in society or the commoner’s workplace? How can the few help 7 billion people be moved from their day-to-day lives to live without the fear of immeasurable suffering? A pandemic perhaps?

We must realize beyond race, color, and religious belief that collectively, man must be that which he professes to want or need and live beyond such nonsense and the circus that surrounds us in politics, beyond the hate and vitriol that encompasses us in an unjust society and the self-serving narcissism our leaders have in their hearts. We must level the playing field. A revolution is at hand. Will this be the first civil war where mask less rebels kill themselves while spreading their willful veil of ignorance to innocents?

How can one person make a difference in these games of life. To those who are born into wealth or prosperity I say your prosperity is also ours. Without us, you would be nothing more than a simple person with a simple heart and gratitude for a meal every day and shelter in which to consume it. But to the few arrogant, those who possess the wealth whilst billions of others suffer without relief for an entire lifetime or generations yet to come, beware, a viral menace is on the horizon.
